Little Auschwitz
November 28, 1942 Reichsführer of Germany Heinrich Himmler issued an order to create a “Little Auschwitz” or German Death / Work Camp for Polish Children in Łódź on a separate part of the “Litzmannstadt Ghetto”.
Polish children, orphans of murdered in the Nazi prisons, homeless were forced to labour camp. They were malnourished, beaten, humiliated died of exhaustion or were shot as no longer fit for work or adoption by the German Nazi occupier.
The plan of the camp in German intentions appeared much earlier, Polish Children were segregated and exported to German families, many of them adopted to hardened Nazis. Most of them lost their identity for ever.
Over the age of 16, they were exported to German concentration camps. There were attempts to escape, but the location of the camp for Polish Children inside the Jewish ghetto caused them to be caught by the Jewish police, under Judernat and German orders.
You must understand that German Nazis didn’t just want to kill you. They wanted to deprive you of humanity first, turn everyone against each other so your uncle, friend, neighbour becomes an obstacle.
And obstacle to getting another meal…
Depravation of morality prior to killing – hopefully with someone else’s hands. That was the goal.
None of the Polish children were ever paid any restitution. They were second class victims. No one ever learned about them. They don’t have a school tour. No one will ever ask them to tour American / European Universities.
Never recognised and never honoured.
83 years later Poles finally got their stone in Berlin.
83 years ……. This one number just blows my mind.
