Corruption in Ukraine is a bottomless pit.
Another scandal has just broken, and this time, former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has been charged with bribery. Tymoshenko, who is currently a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the leader of the Batkivshchyna party, allegedly offered money to other MPs in exchange for favorable votes in parliament. Interestingly, she and MPs from her party criticized the activities of anti-corruption bodies and voted for a law… making these institutions dependent on President Zelensky’s Office, which he himself signed! In this way, the degenerate Ukrainian political class wanted to, de facto, eliminate the independence of the anti-corruption services, which would allow them to steal and corrupt even more easily. The case led to large-scale public protests, which led to the law’s withdrawal. If it weren’t for this, none of the recent scandals would likely have been uncovered.
Let’s just summarize the last few months of the corruption carousel in Ukraine:
The largest corruption scandal in Ukraine has erupted, involving President Zelensky’s closest associates, including Tymur Mindich, his advisor and friend, suspected of organizing a corruption scheme in the Ukrainian energy sector, who fled to Israel via Poland.
Then Andriy Yermak, then head of President Zelensky’s Office, joined the scandal. He was heavily involved in the bill eliminating the independence of Ukrainian corruption bodies. The services searched his home and revealed that one of the luxury residences near Kyiv, financed as part of the Energoatom corruption program, was intended for him.
Shortly thereafter, the intelligence services uncovered an organized crime group operating in the Ukrainian parliament, with MP Hanna Skorokhod suspected of leading it and extorting vast sums of money. The MP is linked to Ukrainian oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, who was Volodymyr Zelensky’s protector and financed his presidential campaign. Furthermore, the anti-corruption services revealed that the State Protection Office obstructed detectives’ work in this case.
Now we have another corruption scandal, this time involving former Prime Minister Tymoshenko, another person who supported the elimination of the independence of corruption bodies, a move President Zelensky himself desired.
That’s why I believe that after the largest corruption scandal in Ukraine, involving the president’s closest associates, and subsequent bribery scandals, countries should halt financing Ukraine with their taxpayer money, including stopping interest payments on the Ukrainian loan granted by the European Commission! Enough is enough with financing corruption-ridden Ukraine and its oligarchs!
