Likud Lawmaker Invokes Jewish ‘Separateness’
‘We Are Not Like Everyone Else’

A lawmaker from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s governing Likud party declared that Jews were fundamentally different from others and could not be subjected to the same laws, Israel’s Channel 13 reported.
Hanoch Milwidsky made the remarks on Wednesday while discussing the Jewish people’s religious identity and their perceived mission in historic Palestine.
“The land of Israel was given to us because we are supposed to fulfill a mission here. Our mission is to establish a Jewish state here that will be worthy of Jews,” Milwidsky said.
Referring to the biblical phrase “a people that shall dwell alone,” the Israeli lawmaker emphasized what he described as Jewish “separateness.”
“We are not like everyone else, and therefore all the laws that apply to everyone cannot apply to us,” he declared.
Milwidsky also dismissed the relevance of international political opinion to Israeli conduct.
“The considerations of all kinds of statesmen from around the world should not be relevant to us,” he said.
‘A Distinguished People’
Milwidsky called on Israelis to remain connected to religious teachings and reject what he described as “foreign agendas.”
“We must remain connected here to our sources,” he said.
The Likud lawmaker argued that because the Jewish population was small, God provided it with major religious figures “like the Rebbe” to provide direction.
He said Jewish people should remain faithful to those religious authorities instead of following outside political or ideological influences.
“The people of Israel are a distinguished people, because they have an obligation to create an exemplary model here in the land of Israel,” Milwidsky added.
His remarks explicitly linked Israel’s political project to claims of Jewish distinctiveness, religious entitlement to the land and exemption from laws applied to others.
‘Everything Is Legitimate’
The statements came amid continuing criticism of Israeli policies and declarations by members of the country’s right and far right that Israeli and international human rights organizations have described as expressions of Jewish supremacy over Palestinians.
Israeli human rights group B’Tselem has described Israel’s rule throughout historic Palestine as a regime of “Jewish supremacy.”
The organization has argued that Israeli policies and practices were designed to advance Jewish rights, power and territorial control over Palestinians living on the same land.
Milwidsky had previously provoked outrage during a July 2024 Knesset debate concerning Israeli soldiers suspected of sexually abusing a Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman detention facility.
When asked whether sexually abusing a detainee was legitimate, Milwidsky responded that “everything is legitimate” when dealing with someone he described as a Hamas member.
