On the surface, organ transplantation is presented as a life-saving medical breakthrough. But when you look deeper, the reality of organ procurement is far darker than most people are led to believe.
What was once a field led primarily by physicians and nurses has increasingly been transferred to large nonprofit organizations run by MBAs, where decisions are driven by protocols, quotas, and financial outcomes.
When you consider that organ procurement is a multi-billion-dollar industry, the corruption becomes easier to understand. Despite nonprofit branding, the organizations that procure organs and the system operates within a profit-driven framework.
The concept of “brain death” was created to ethically justify the removal of organs from bodies that still show signs of life. In order to preserve organs for transplantation, surgery must occur while circulation is still present—an uncomfortable reality that many people are never told.
Additionally, there are countless documented accounts of patients displaying signs of life on the operating table who made a full recovery after being determined to be brain dead. This was of course after someone spoke up and went against the system.
To prevent your organs from being harvested, you should have clear conversations with your family and loved ones. Make your wishes known. If you do not want to be an organ donor, ensure your documentation reflects that choice, including your driver’s license designation.
You are worth more to the system when you’re dead and the system will act accordingly.
